I spent hours looking on eBay & Amazon for a decent shelf for a particular application. Most of what I found, did not quite work for what I needed. The items I found that would work, were poorly reviewed because of substandard material and cheap construction. I draw up plans to have something custom-made, and got 3 estimates ranging from $300 to $500. This was a little more than I wanted to spend, though I would have had something that would last a couple lifetimes. Then I happened upon the Really Good Stuff Mail Center (27). But, there were no reviews. What to do...what to do? In some of the other things I looked at, they advertised "fiberboard" shelves, which reviewers said was corrugated cardboard. That was not going to work for me. This Mail Center has shelves made of 1/8" MDF (medium-density fibreboard) Substrate. This is similar to, but not as strong as Masonite; but stronger and denser than Particle Board. I decided that this shelf would be strong enough for what I needed, and ordered it.I got it in 5 days (not eligible for Prime), and it was packed very well. There were no damaged pieces, and no missing pieces. In fact, there were actually extras of all the hardware. The superstructure is made of 1/2" MDF Substrate (which is laminated with hard-wearing Melamine to seal the material). Unlike the reviews for other products, this thing went together very quickly and securely with studs, cam locks, wooden pegs and screws. At least, till it slipped out of my hand (because it is a pretty substantial unit, 32" W-12" D-23-1/2" H) and got smacked against the footstool I was using to put it together and one of the shelves broke. Kudos to Really Good Stuff LLC for sending me out a replacement in 2 days so I could get it done. On the subject of shelves, these shelves will not pull out, as they are installed from behind, then held in place with a solid back panel, made with the same material as the shelving. Now, the actual purpose for this, is for teachers to have a place to put papers and material in for their students (and includes self-adhesive name labels). So it has to be solidly constructed to hold up to the rigorous use generated by kids. My purpose, is to use it to hold my leather Bible collection. I would have liked to have the spine of the Bible to show, but that proved to be an impossible request; but on the other hand, it would have to be a much larger unit. This will work for me, and I believe it will hold up for many years. There are 27 compartments (3 rows of 9), and each compartment is 10" W-11-1/2" D-2-1/4" H. The Mail Center was enough to accommodate all my Bibles, size-wise and weight-wise. Now I can't buy any more Bibles (I did actually had to put 2 in 1 compartment), or else I'm gonna have to get another unit.I am very impressed with the quality of this unit, and I believe it stands heads and shoulders above any other boxed unit that you'll find. The only way to top this would be something custom-made.Really Good Stuff Classroom Mail Center - 27 Slots
