Product Description

'Good guitar music, well played.' That pretty well sums up Terry Mitchell's approach to the guitar: choose good music and play it well. 'Good Touch' features 10 instrumentals - 6 of those original - that reflect his many influences. He honors Leo Kottke, who inspired him to become a guitarist, with the classic 'Watermelon' from Kottke's influential album '6 and 12 String Guitar.' Two selections from the great American songbook - 'Over The Rainbow' and 'The Boy Next Door' - were arranged for guitar by Laurindo Almeida, the Brazillian guitarist also known for his role in bringing Bossa Nova to the US. A long time student of classical and flamenco guitar with Ricardo Fusco in Memphis, he has included 'Modo De Gitanos,' a short flamenco piece written by Fusco. The remaining pieces are all by Mitchell: - 'Fanfare For Fusco' - a powerful tribute to his teacher. - 'Blue I' - loosely based on the guitar accompaniment for 'What Does He Want Of Me' that Dulcinea sings in 'Man of La Mancha' - 'The Dance' - a simple waltz in C - 'Gentle Song' - a surprisingly lovely song, given it's origin in a topic from Mitchell's graduate study in mathematics - 'Goodbye, Sexy Carol' - breaking up is hard to do - 'Mine/Her Dance' - a complex, but listenable, exploration in E minor. Mitchell brings a streamlined approach to the instrument where musicality reigns. 'Music is what our emotions sound like,' he says, 'and the range of human emotion is captured in the sonorities of the guitar.' His playing will capture the listener at first hearing; repeat listening reveals additional depth to each song. Recommended for anyone who appreciates acoustic guitar and innovative musical compositions.
