Product Description Eric Gales is a disciple of Jimi Hendrix, Frank Marino, Robin Trower, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Johnson. Yet this new CD is a soul album, filled with hot licks. Gales joins Grammy winning producer and record- ing artist Raphael Saadiq. Good For Sumthin' is also a gritty blues- rock record with a low-down feel, lush gospel harmonies, and sizzling guitar. Lyrically it follows the same path of previous records: semi-autobiographical yarns about rough times and sociopathic women. But Saadiq allows Gales to explore his soul-rock leanings a` la "You Give Me Life." "Tonight (I'm Leav- ing)" takes this further with it's deep funk and extroverted guitar, while the acoustic "Show Me How" displays Gales' smoother side. His cover of "Miss You" by the Rolling Stones is a pleasant surprise, while his backing band simmers in a deep pocket of unadulterated funkiness throughout. Gales cuts heads with Zakk Wylde on "Steep Climb," then finds his moment of Zen on "E2 (Note For Note)" with his spiritual leader Eric Johnson. Throughout, Gales burns like napalm. - Oscar Jordan. Review Limited edition colored vinyl pressing - available in both red and gold - of the new album from one the most respected and praised guitarists in modern music Eric Gales! --Epk
I have all of Eric Gales' albums and I love all of them. I can listen to him play guitar all day but I also love his singing. This album has soul and the songs come from a personal point of view but it still rocks. It reminds me of "That's What I Am" which is what really got me into his music. The songs are top notch, with great choruses and catchy hooks. Excellent spin on the Stones cover. Amazing singing and harmonies and, of course, Eric's guitar playing has never been better. He always delivers hair raising blues/rock solos that makes me want to learn every lick. But very few guitar players continue to get better like Eric does. Oh yeah, Eric Johnson and Zakk Wylde are guest players. The EJ duet is priceless. Just got the PGP 2 CD and that is Awesome too. Keep it up EG!
